As Israel marks its Independence Day, the concept of "freedom" takes on a different meaning for me.

Over 550 days have passed since the tragic events involving Hamas terrorists, where I was held captive for 55 days. Even though I have been released, true freedom eludes me.
My heart remains captive with my partner, Matan Zangauker, who is still held in Gaza.
Matan and I had chosen a peaceful life in Kibbutz Nir Oz, enjoying quiet mornings together amidst the beauty of the countryside. However, everything changed on Oct. 7, 2023, when terrorists attacked our community.
After enduring captivity and facing various health issues, I am haunted by the fact that Matan is still in captivity. The release of a video showing his condition gave me hope but also deepened my resolve to fight for his return.
My journey has led me to speak out, advocate for the living, and work towards reuniting families torn apart by similar tragedies. Each day is a battle between hope and despair, as we wait for the return of our loved ones.
On this significant day of remembrance and celebration in Israel, my personal grief highlights the ongoing struggle for complete freedom and independence. The fight continues until every hostage is brought home, including Matan.
