Brand, sporting gold-rimmed aviator shades and a partially unbuttoned shirt, was escorted by police through a crowd of photographers as he entered the courtroom.

After the hearing, he left in a black Mercedes Benz. Brand has maintained his innocence in response to the charges.

London's Metropolitan Police charged the comedian and actor last month with rape, indecent assault, oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.

The investigation into Brand began in September 2023 following multiple allegations received by U.K. detectives, prompted by reports in the British press of inappropriate sexual behavior by Brand.

Brand addressed the charges on Instagram, acknowledging the lack of trust in the British government and emphasizing his intention to defend himself against the accusations.

The charges relate to alleged incidents in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including rape, assault, and sexual misconduct.

Despite his controversial reputation, Brand has denied engaging in nonconsensual activities and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present his case in court.

Following the charges against Brand, the BBC issued a formal apology to employees for mishandling harassment complaints during his time as a presenter at the network.

Allegations of inappropriate behavior by Brand at the BBC included instances of exposing himself and engaging in emotionally abusive relationships.
