WASHINGTON ‒ President Donald Trump expressed uncertainty about his obligation to uphold the U.S. Constitution during an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" while defending his administration's actions on immigration.

Trump's remarks come after the Supreme Court ruled in April that his administration must assist in the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador without a fair trial.

When asked whether he must uphold the Constitution, Trump responded, "I don't know. I rely on my legal team to follow the Supreme Court's guidance."
The administration's stance on not seeking Abrego Garcia's release has drawn criticism for defying the Supreme Court. Democrats argue that everyone deserves due process under the Fifth Amendment, but Trump seemed unsure about this principle during the interview.
Trump's actions have raised concerns about his interpretation of presidential power and his willingness to comply with legal standards. Despite claiming he could secure Abrego Garcia's return, Trump deferred the decision to the Salvadoran president.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has stated that he has no intention of releasing Abrego Garcia, leaving his fate uncertain.
