The delivery driver survived the shooting in Chester, but suffered "serious physical injuries," police said.

Reilly was charged with three felonies, including assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and criminal possession of a firearm, the New York State Police said. He was arraigned and taken to the Orange County Jail.

It was not clear the morning of May 6 whether Reilly had a lawyer. He has a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. on May 9.

A DoorDash spokesperson said on May 6 that the company will work with investigators as they look into the shooting.

"No one should ever fear for their safety just for trying to make deliveries in their neighborhood," the company said via the spokesperson. "We're devastated by this senseless act of violence, and we're wishing the Dasher a full and speedy recovery."

Investigators learned that the victim was making deliveries for DoorDash in Reilly's neighborhood when he got lost.

Unable to navigate using his phone, the driver went to multiple homes asking for directions. Once the driver got to Reilly's home, Reilly told the victim to get off his property, then shot at the victim multiple times as the driver tried to leave in his car, police said.

Reilly hit the victim once in the back, leading to "serious physical injuries," police said.

The shooting happened around 9:50 p.m. local time on May 2, state police said.

When contacted by USA TODAY on May 6, DoorDash said the correct address was listed in the DoorDash app, however, the driver went to the wrong house. The driver was trying to make a delivery at night in a rural location.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, working with the Orange County District Attorney's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Police ask that anyone with information contact (845) 344-5300.
