A crucial witness in Karen Read's second murder trial involving the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O'Keefe, faces intense scrutiny from the defense after a surprising admission earlier in the week.

Jennifer McCabe, a pivotal witness in the case against the Massachusetts woman accused of hitting O'Keefe with her SUV and leaving him to die, testified on April 29 that she heard Read confess to the crime.

During cross-examination on May 2, defense attorney Alan Jackson raised doubts about McCabe's testimony by highlighting text messages that suggest collusion among witnesses.

As the trial continues, McCabe's testimony remains crucial in shaping the arguments presented by both prosecutors and defense attorneys.

In addition to McCabe, jurors are expected to hear from crash reconstruction experts and other witnesses who played roles in the case.

Despite concerns raised by special prosecutor Hank Brennan, Judge Beverly Cannone denied a motion to dismiss certain witnesses over deleted text messages related to the trial.

The defense team focused on McCabe's Google search history, particularly a search made at 2:27 a.m. on the day O'Keefe was found dead. McCabe denied making the search at that time, claiming it was done later at Read's request.

Further questioning revealed discrepancies in McCabe's call history and text exchanges with family members after O'Keefe's death, leading to accusations of collusion.

The ongoing trial also delves into Read's claims of being framed by law enforcement officers, adding layers of complexity to the case.
