The internet is abuzz with discussions regarding President Donald Trump's mention of NHL star Alex Ovechkin during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

During the meeting at the White House on May 6, Trump made reference to Ovechkin while praising Canadians, specifically mentioning Wayne Gretzky.

Although Trump did not explicitly name Ovechkin, he alluded to the NHL player breaking a record recently, which was in fact achieved by Ovechkin for career goals.
Some social media users interpreted Trump's comments as suggesting Ovechkin was Canadian, while others believe he was simply acknowledging the hockey star's achievement in relation to Gretzky's record.
Regardless, the debate continues as to whether Trump's reference to Ovechkin was a mistake or intentional.
Gretzky hails from Ontario, Canada, while Ovechkin is from Moscow, Russia.
